From the Lab

Fresh ideas. Audio experiments. Compositions in the works. Some well-formed, some just sketches. That is The Lab. Hear early incarnations of our experiments in progress. The pieces will likely make their way to the stage or studio some time in the future.

Experiment: "Sunday's Song"

March 6, 2013

This one is a very raw tune -- just a shell of ideas at this point. Plenty more to come...

Instruments: Rhodes, guitars, bass on hammond, tenor sax

Experiment: "Horse Cow Sandwich"

March 2, 2013

Here's a new composition from the last couple weeks. The band has been cranking out more and more writing each week to get ready for our next album. Stylistically a slightly new direction for us....

Instruments: Bass on organ, Ableton drums, guitars, rhodes

Experiment: "White Rhino"

December 10, 2012

The newest experiment from our lab has a little bit of that later era Fela-led Egypt 80 vibe. We hear a lot of moving horn lines on this cut.

Instruments: Guitars, Hammond organ bass line, Rhodes

Experiment: "Nuke Ev"

December 3, 2012

K Ford wrote this song sketch a few days back. It's the workings of some ideas that would translate to horn lines and possibly guitar/wurlitzer parts.

Instruments: Organ, rhodes, ableton drums

Experiment: "Danjuma (Instrumental)"

November 17, 2012

Last night we started with a drum pattern written last July in Oregon on our last Summer West Coast tour. (It's amazing what will come to mind with 8+ hours in a van.) Everything else around the drum pattern fell into place in about 90 minutes or so. Recorded at Fullerton Recording Studios.

Instruments: Hammond bass, hammond organ, Ableton percussion/drums, guitars
