Afro-Nets, the African Network for Health Research and Development, recently highlighted Chicago Afrobeat Project’s contributions to Journalists Against AIDS Nigeria (JAAIDS), a non-profit organization that creates innovative communication programs to battle AIDS in Nigeria. According to Omololu Falobi, executive director of JAAIDS, “We deeply appreciate this [donation], particularly coming as it were from a group that maintains close links to Afrobeat and to Fela, whose AIDS-related death did a lot to change the tide in public awareness about HIV and AIDS Nigeria.” View more about the contribution at www.afronets.org.

Carrying the torch for Afrobeat genre founder Fela Kuti, Chicago Afrobeat Project fuse jazz with African tribal music. Primarily instrumental, this nine-member group are best known for blowing people’s minds with their live show. Along with the ensemble and solo works of drums, keys, horns, and guitars you’ll hear traditional African instruments such as the kora. The group is donating part of the proceeds from the sale of this seven-song CD to JAAIDS (Journalists Against AIDS Nigeria), which is just as cool as their music.
